Probably Stolen has no official co-op, but the Probably Multiplayer mod adds online shop visits, real customers and chat. How it works.

Probably Stolen Multiplayer Mod Guide
Probably Stolen is a single-player game. There is no official co-op or multiplayer mode. A Workshop mod called Probably Multiplayer (ID 3828909239) adds online social play: visit other players' shops at night, meet real customers by day, chat and bargain. It is a mod, not an official mode, and it requires a restart after enabling.
The store page lists single-player only. That is the official answer. The mod is the community's answer, and it is surprisingly complete for a first-week Workshop release: public matchmaking, private rooms, friend visits and chat.
This guide explains what the mod does, how to install it, and what it does not do.
What Probably Multiplayer adds
According to its Workshop description:
- Visit other players' shops at night. You can walk into another player's store, look at their stock and socialise.
- Real customers by day. Other players can visit your shop while you are running it.
- Chat and bargaining. Talk to the player, not just the NPC.
- Public matchmaking. Join a public session with strangers.
- Private rooms. Useful for streamers, friends and scheduled sessions.
- Friend visits and private chat.
- Collection showing. Display rare items to other players.
- Joke trading. The description mentions buying "rat shit bottles" and selling fake food stamps, which tells you the tone.
The mod is social, not a co-op campaign. You are not running one shop with two cashiers; you are visiting each other's shops and trading stories.
What it does not do
- No official co-op. The developer has not announced a multiplayer mode.
- No shared save. Each player runs their own shop.
- No competitive economy. The mod does not merge markets or create a shared price system.
- No guarantee of stability. It is a first-week mod; updates can break sessions.
- No cross-version compatibility. All players should be on the same game and mod version.
If you want a co-op business sim, this is not it. If you want to show a friend your wine cabinet and buy their weird rat bottle, it is exactly that.
Install
- Subscribe to Probably Multiplayer on the Steam Workshop.
- Launch the game and open the Mods panel.
- Enable the mod and read the capability warning.
- Restart the game. The mod's description explicitly asks for this.
- Open the multiplayer menu or the mod's settings to choose public or private.
The 1.0.0.6 Modding Security Update may require the mod to be updated before it loads. Check the Workshop page's last-updated date.
Hosting and joining
The mod's flow is session-based:
- Public session: join the matchmaking pool.
- Private room: create a room and share the code with friends.
- Friend visit: join a friend's shop directly, if the mod version supports it.
The host's game is the authority. If the host closes the game, the session ends. If the host's mod version differs from yours, expect a failed join or a desync.
Etiquette
- Do not touch the stock unless the owner says so. The mod is social; the shop is still theirs.
- Ask before you buy. A joke purchase can ruin a run.
- Do not spoil the Aug meter. A visitor who triggers an Aug event can change the host's run.
- Keep sessions short if the host is mid-run. The shop clock keeps moving.
- Report bugs on the Workshop page, not in the host's chat.
Performance and stability
Multiplayer mods in a single-player engine are fragile. Expect:
- Desyncs when the host and guest see different item states.
- Lag if the host has a large shop.
- Version breaks after a game hotfix.
- Save risk if you join a session with a content mod the host does not have.
Back up your save before the first session. The save editor guide explains where the save lives and how to copy it.
Is it worth installing?
Yes, if:
- You have a friend who also plays.
- You want to show off a collection.
- You are streaming and want viewer visits.
- You understand it is a mod and can break.
No, if:
- You want a stable co-op campaign.
- You play on a strict save.
- You are mid-Rock Bottom and cannot afford a disruption.
- You are on a game version the mod has not updated for.
The best mods guide ranks it as the best "new experience" mod. The modded run pack leaves it out of the stability-focused loadout for exactly the reasons above.
Alternatives
There is no official multiplayer. The realistic alternatives are:
- Share screens and play in parallel.
- Compare saves after a run.
- Use the Steam Workshop to share mod lists, not sessions.
- Wait for an official mode. The developer has not announced one.
Do not buy the game for multiplayer. Buy it for the single-player shop sim; treat the mod as a bonus.

The multiplayer mod's shop visit: social pressure, shared customers and no shared campaign save.
